Hand and Wrist Pain, Injury and Procedures | Surgery Center of Winter Park

The Surgery Center of Winter Park is dedicated to excellence in healthcare. At our Ambulatory Surgery Center, (ASC) we specialize in minimally invasive procedures by using advanced technology.

We are committed to bringing you affordable, convenient and quality healthy care. Our board-certified surgeons specialize in diagnosing and treating hand injuries through pain management injections and procedures.

At our multi-progressive facility, we perform wrist fusions, wrist replacements, joint replacements, finger joint fusions, and carpal tunnel release

A patient may need a wrist fusion if they experience any form of arthritis, wrist disease, or a fracture in the wrist. Wrist replacements, widely known as wrist arthroplasty, replace your radiocarpal joint which is the joint that connects your hand to your arm.

In order to determine which procedure is best suited for you, one of our physicians at SCWP will diagnose the injury and determine the cause of the pain. Hand and wrist pain will vary depending on the cause and can either be caused by sudden impact, repetitive stress, and diseases.

Repetitive stress to a person’s hand or wrist can look like repetitive motion such as hitting a tennis ball or holding your phone and texting all day long. The hands and wrists can become very painful as a result of sports injuries such as dislocations, sprains, broken bones, inflammation, and even ligament tears. The pain in your hands and wrists may not always be caused by sports injuries, it may be a result of overuse, such as arthritis or tendonitis.

Which measures can a patient take in order to reduce their chance of experiencing hand/wrist pain? The risk cannot be totally avoided for patients irrespective of their lifestyles, whether they are sedentary, active, or normal.

Everyone is capable of experiencing wrist pain. However, limiting your participation in strenuous sports, repetitive work, and certain diseases or conditions will reduce the risk. Building bone strength, preventing falls, and paying attention to ergonomics can also help prevent these injuries.

Frequent movement and exercise that allows these bones to become stronger can help minimize the risk of arthritis. Avoiding any type of substance abuse will also slow down bone loss as you age and reduce the risk of any injury or disease.

It is important to understand the point at which your hand or wrist pain has reached a diagnosis of arthritis. Arthritis can be identified as pain, stiffness, swelling, or numbness in the wrist and/or fingers. In general, osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis and is widely recognized as arthritis caused by “wear and tear.”

If you or a loved one suffers from arthritis or another hand or wrist injury that is causing extreme pain and impeding your daily activities, it may be time to seek a pain management plan. Surgery Center of Winter Park is ready to help you find a solution whether it be via injections or a procedure.
